A member of the Sportsnet broadcast team since 2013, Donnovan Bennett has worked in a variety of roles with the national broadcaster, including feature host, producer, radio host and writer. Currently, Bennett hosts Going Deep with Donnovan Bennett, a one-of-a-kind audio show that touches on the intersections between sports, race, politics, gender and pop culture. In addition to his work in the radio booth, Bennett regularly contributes to fan-favourite shows such as Tim & Friends and creates multiplatform content for the network’s TV, digital and social platforms.
Outside of creating content for Sportsnet platforms, Bennett has been integral to the development and implementation of Sportsnet and Rogers Sports & Media’s Inclusion & Diversity strategy. Through his tireless efforts as the Inclusive Content Lead at Sportsnet, Bennett has created a space to uplift the voice of Canada’s BIPOC community in sports and beyond.
Prior to his work in sports journalism, Bennett attended The University of Western Ontario, where he played running back for the Western Mustangs and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 2007. Bennett worked for the Score to work as a CIS Football analyst and reporter, host and feature reporter and in June 2013, he signed on with Sportsnet.
Previously nominated for a Gemini Award, Bennett earned a Ted Rogers Business Excellence Award in 2021 for his work honouring the legacy of George Floyd with the #Remember929 video campaign. In 2021, Bennett won a RTDNA Canada Award for his hosting work on the Ending Racism: What Will It Take? special alongside Cityline’s Tracey Moore. In addition to his work on inclusion and diversity, Bennett was also named as the 2021 recipient of the L.B. “Mike” Pearson Award for exemplifying the ideals and purposes of interuniversity athletics and amateur sport.
