Keeping Throwback Radio Moving Forward
(Track 1) Presentation and Panel Discussion
Classic Hits, Classic Rock, and stations playing the throwback hits of the ‘90s and 2Ks are currently among radio’s most successful, not just for the listeners who grew up with those songs, but also for the many younger listeners who choose radio today. How do Classic Hits stations evolve and stay fresh, particularly at a time when current-based stations are playing more of the same songs?
Skip Dillard, Format VP for Rhythmic AC and Throwback formats at Audacy, will talk about the experiences of 94.7 The Block (WXBK) in bringing throwbacks to New York, and about keeping the format topical and relevant. Sean Ross, editor of the Ross On Radio newsletter and a longtime Classic Hits strategist, will discuss musical trends in gold-based formats and how to negotiate a more crowded landscape and keep the music special. Leading the discussion will be Stephanie Hunter, Program Director for Boom 99.7 in Ottawa and CHR Jump 106.9.
